Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Hidden within the bustling city of Tokyo lies Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a serene paradise. Upon entering, you'll be instantly enveloped by nature—lush greenery blankets the eyes, sunlight filters through the leaves, and you'll almost forget you're in Asia's busiest metropolis. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is more than just a botanical garden; it's a secret escape for city dwellers, offering a unique perspective on Tokyo, whether sunny or breezy. Recommended Attraction: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is located at 11 Naitocho, Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. It offers convenient transportation, with Shinjuku, Yoyogi, and Sendagaya Stations all within a 10-minute walk. The gardens feature Japanese gardens, English landscape gardens, and French geometric gardens, along with ponds, expansive lawns, and a wide variety of trees. On clear days, the reflections of the lake complement the tree-lined paths, creating a captivating outdoor experience. You might even encounter ducks and cats strolling by the pond. The most eye-catching feature is the old Taiwan Pavilion, a Chinese-style building with white walls and gray tiles in the park. Its simplicity evokes a sense of mystery. Useful Information (Save This!) - Address: 11 Naitocho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo - Admission: 24.0 yen for adults, very affordable - Opening Hours: These hours vary depending on the date, with some opening at 7:00 AM and some closed regularly. Be sure to check before your trip! Normal operating hours are generally from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM). Some days open at 7:00 AM and sometimes open until 6:00 PM. Avoid closed days! - There aren't many restaurants in the park, so it's recommended to bring a simple picnic or purchase a bento in advance at a convenience store near Shinjuku Station. There are plenty of benches and lawns throughout the park, perfect for picnics. My Personal Experience Shinjuku Gyoen truly feels like entering another world. The bustling city of downtown Tokyo is clearly not far away, yet the sound of traffic is completely absent, leaving only the sound of wind and birdsong, inviting a leisurely stroll and pause for reflection. For those who enjoy photography, any composition is beautiful—whether it's the maple trees in the foreground, the reflections on the lake, or the distant Chinese-style building—they all offer a soothing feeling. Tip: Bring a hat or parasol when entering the park on sunny days; sun protection is essential, especially in the summer. Transportation/Nearby Excursions - We recommend taking the JR Yamanote Line and getting off at Shinjuku, Sendagaya, or Yoyogi Station, which is a ten-minute walk. - After exploring Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, try the yakitori (grilled skewers) at the alleyway food stalls in Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho, another popular food spot in Shinjuku, or walk to Kabukicho for a unique nightlife experience. There are also several cafes around Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, such as BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE Sendagaya, located near Sendagaya Station. After a stroll, enjoy a pour-over coffee and soak in the vibrant city and nature. Tips for Fun - Check in early and choose a hotel close to Shinjuku Station for easy access. - Alcohol and pets are prohibited within the park. Please be mindful of litter disposal during picnics. - You can adjust your itinerary to accommodate park closures. Nearby attractions include Meiji Jingu Shrine and Okubo Korean Street. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is truly a must-visit urban oasis in Tokyo. Whether it's a sunny day or late autumn, you'll find a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city! #TokyoShinjukuGyoen #BotanicalGarden #UrbanOasis #TravelTips #TokyoWalk
