Tokyo｜The birthplace of Japanese school education - Visit Yushima Seido to see the Confucius statue gifted by Taiwan.

Yushima Seido, also known as Tokyo's Confucian Temple, was originally established by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the fifth shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. He relocated the original Shensheng Hall from Ueno to this site, setting up the Taiseiden and merging the surrounding area under the name Seido. This site has nurtured many outstanding talents in Japanese history. Institutions like Shoheizaka Gakumonjo and Tenmonkata, which later merged to form the predecessor of the University of Tokyo, were based here. After the Meiji Restoration, this location served as the headquarters for the Ministry of Education and the National Museum. It was also the birthplace of Tsukuba University, a cradle of Japanese education. Unfortunately, the original structure was destroyed during the Great Kanto Earthquake. The current Taiseiden was designed and built in 1935 by Ito Chuta, one of the most influential architects of his time. Ito Chuta is also known for designing Meiji Shrine, Heian Shrine, Kashihara Shrine, and Tsukiji Honganji Temple. The combination of mythical creatures like the Oni Ryuko and divine fish on the roof showcases Ito Chuta's ingenuity. While exploring the garden, you'll come across a 4.5-meter-tall Confucius statue, donated by the Taipei Lions Club. It is the largest Confucius statue in the world.
