Koishikawa Botanical Garden in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo Its official name is the Botanical Gardens of the Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo, and it is one of the university's research facilities for the purpose of botany research and education. Its predecessor was a medicinal herb garden from the Edo period, making it the oldest botanical garden in Japan and one of the oldest in the world. The large site of about 170,000 m2 is home to a variety of plants and greenhouses, making the most of the original topography. In spring, it is one of Tokyo's most famous cherry blossom spots, and spring flowers along with various varieties of cherry blossoms decorate the garden.
