The onset of spring transformed the surroundings into a paradise, and walking through Hama-rikyu Gardens invigorated us. Enveloped by breathtaking scenery in this serene sanctuary, we were captivated by the breathtaking sights that never ceased to impress us, forming indelible memories. Hama-rikyu Garden in Tokyo distinguishes itself from other gardens in the city by showcasing not the typical weeping cherry blossoms or maple foliage, but rather the stunning bright pink plum trees that bloom during the late winter season. This serene garden, with a rich history as a hunting ground for the Tokugawa shogunate, now finds itself nestled amidst the towering structures of the Shiodome development, creating a unique blend of traditional and modern elements. The allure of Hama-rikyu lies not only in its picturesque plum trees but also in the abundance of water features that surround it, creating a sense of tranquility and spaciousness that is truly captivating. Situated on reclaimed land, the garden is encircled by an ancient walled moat, offering two grand entrances via the Otemon and Naka-no-gomon bridges, with the added option of arriving by boat from Asakusa for a truly memorable experience. The focal points of Hama-rikyu Garden include a vast tidal pond, home to two charming islands - one of which hosts a traditional teahouse - connected to the shore by elegant wooden bridges. Additionally, a striking 300-year-old pine tree serves as a photogenic centerpiece, adding to the garden's timeless beauty and allure. With its harmonious blend of natural elements and meticulous landscaping, Hama-rikyu Garden stands as a true oasis in the heart of bustling Tokyo.
