Tokunoyama Inari Shrine in Sumida Ward, Tokyo 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 In the early Edo period, Tokuyama Gobei and Yamazaki Shirozaemon were appointed as magistrates to promote the development of Honjo and Fukagawa. Tokuyama Gobei was given a mansion by the shogunate in recognition of his achievements, and an Inari shrine was enshrined as the house god. After Tokuyama Gobei's death, his spirit was enshrined by people who praised his virtue, and it is said that the shrine became the current Tokunoyama Inari Shrine. The grounds are surrounded by stone walls, and are inscribed with the name of the Tokunoyama Ko caretaker. As you walk along the approach to the shrine, you will come to an open gate, and inside the enclosure is the shrine building. In front of the shrine building are several small torii gates and a fox statue. You can see sculptures of rising and descending dragons. We were able to go around to the back of the shrine and there was a large tree right behind it.
