Otowa Fuji at Sengen Shrine in Gokokuji

Otowa Fuji at Sengen Shrine in the grounds of Gokokuji Temple is an artificial Fujizuka about 6 meters high, modeled after Mt. Fuji. It was built in 1817 by the "Yamago-ko," a group of people who worship Mt. Fuji. It was later moved to its current location in 1885, and was restored in 1989, including the stone shrine on the summit. The surface of the mountain is covered with numerous stone monuments and lava stones called "kuroboku stones" that were brought from Mt. Fuji. It is a rare Fujizuka located inside a temple.
