Tokyo’s treasure trove, the national museum

Without a doubt this is an essential stop on any trip to Tokyo, it’s a beautifully created museum in stunning grounds. Nestled in Ueno park there are plenty of other cultural sights around, but if you’re limited on time this is the one to do. Set across multiple buildings the artefacts are grouped by region and time period. I spent a lot of time in the Asian halls and the Japanese history halls, I went at opening time and the museum was nice and quiet. As I left around midday it was starting to get very busy so the morning is definitely the best time to go. Entrance is around $5 and there is good free wifi throughout the exhibits.
