Kg. Tekek Adventures: Came for the Beach, Stayed for the Chill

Just got back from a sun-soaked weekend at Kg. Tekek, Pulau Tioman — my second time on this magical island, and here’s my official review: ✨ 10/10 island, 2/10 scooter confidence, 100/10 peace of mind. Booked a ferry ticket online (very smooth, very adulting), arrived in Tekek, and instantly transformed into the island version of a lost delivery rider. 🛵 🏡 Stayed at a cozy little chalet right by the beach. Woke up to crashing waves, had breakfast with no rush, and fully embraced my slow-life fantasy. 🌊 Rented a snorkel set and floated around in the clear, shallow waters — very family friendly. Or in my case: anxious-swimmer friendly. No judgment, just vibes. 🛵 Then I got bold. Rented a scooter and rode around like a kampung celebrity — from Kg. Tekek to Kg. Air Batang, waving at cats, monkeys, and confused tourists like I was running for village chief. BUT THEN… I tried to scooter over to Kg. Juara. And let me tell you: that hill looked like it was designed by mountain goats and bad decisions. I paused. The scooter paused. My soul briefly left my body. Decided to U-turn before I ended up as breaking news: “Tourist rescued halfway up Tioman hill after emotional scooter meltdown.” ✈️ Fun fact: Kg. Tekek has its own airport! Kg. Tekek has its own airport, which is adorable. But guess what? Not a single plane landed the whole time I was there. 💸 Also: bring enough cash! There’s only one bank on the island, and the ATM might gives major “out of service” energy. Come prepared or be ready to trade seashells for nasi goreng. Would I come back again? Absolutely.
