Exploring the Mayan Ruins | Chichen Itza, Mexico

Can you travel to Mexico alone? Is it safe? Do people speak English there? Aren't the ruins located in remote areas? How's the access? These are some of the common questions I receive. This time, I’ll introduce Chichen Itza, the most famous and easily accessible Mayan ruins in Mexico 🌟 📍Chichen Itza Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza is a renowned Mayan archaeological site. Fun fact: the ruins inspired the design of the Indiana Jones attraction building at DisneySea! The most common way to visit is from Cancun. I opted for a tour since the cost of transportation was not significantly different from going solo. The tour not only covers Chichen Itza but also includes stops at a cenote, tequila tasting, a Mexican buffet, and visits to charming towns along the way 🌮🍻 The Yucatan Peninsula is a hot and humid region in Mexico, so make sure to prepare for the heat 🫠. On the day I visited, the temperature peaked at 41°C. The sunlight is intense and unlike anything in Japan 🌞. Be cautious as there’s little shade while exploring the ruins. As for the cenote, you can choose whether to swim or not. If you decide to swim, you’ll need to pay extra for a life jacket. Since I can’t swim, I opted to wait outside. There are open-air cafes and restaurants where you can relax during the wait. For those who want to swim, shower facilities are available, so no worries. While English isn’t widely spoken in Mexico, it can be a bit daunting for those unfamiliar with international travel. However, joining a tour ensures that English-speaking staff will guide you through various spots, making it stress-free. Covering so many attractions on the Yucatan Peninsula in just one day makes tours highly recommended ☺️
