The capital was established by the Mayans who ruled the area in the 6th century, and huge structures such as pyramids were built. The largest pyramid in the Mayan civilization, the Temple of Kukulkan, is located here. In the mid-12th century, the capital was moved to Mayapan, and the town gradually declined. Although it became a ruin in the 16th century, the surrounding indigenous people worshiped and protected it as a sacred place. Since then, the Mexican government has taken over and restored it, and in 1988 it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ✅Gran Cenote A cenote is a natural spring connected to an underwater cave in the limestone area underground on the Yucatan Peninsula. Gran Cenote is the most popular cenote in Cancun. If you bring your swimsuit, you can swim. ✅Valladolid A lovely town lined with colonial-style buildings! Certified as a "Pueblo Mágico (magical beautiful village)" by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, it is attractive for its colorful and photogenic scenery.
