Maijishan Scenic Area, Tianshui, Gansu Province: Xianren Cliff

Xianren Cliff in Tianshui, Gansu Province is an important part of Maijishan Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and 5A-level scenic area. In late autumn, after visiting Maijishan Grottoes, we went to Xianren Cliff. 🌈Highlights: After entering the gate, take a shuttle bus to Xianren Lake. From the bridge, you can see the lake and mountains in the distance. The mountain peaks in the distance are similar to the mountain of Maijishan Grottoes. After leaving the lake, take a walk along the quiet mountain path and enjoy the fairyland-like atmosphere. Xianren Cliff Scenic Area is about 15 km from Maijishan Grottoes. It consists of three cliffs, five peaks, and six temples. Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism are combined here, forming a unique religious culture. After passing through the woods and climbing a steep staircase, you will reach Luohan Hall under the East Cliff. Luohan Hall is a temple-style building from the Ming and Qing dynasties. There are 18 Arhat statues on both sides of the main Buddha. Each statue is lifelike and vivid. Follow the path under the cliff to the West Cliff of the main peak, the essence of Xianren Cliff Scenic Area. Under the huge cliff is a crescent-shaped cave about 100 meters long and 10 meters deep, like a huge natural eave. More than ten temples are lined up below, centered on Lingying Temple. The temples are arranged according to the mountain, which is different from the central axis layout of other temples. The temples house more than 100 Buddha statues from the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, as well as nearly 100 square meters of murals, showcasing the superb skills of ancient craftsmen and reflecting the humanistic style of society at that time. They have extremely high artistic value. Xianren Cliff was built in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, with a history of 1,600 years. Here, natural and cultural landscapes are cleverly combined, making it a true "paradise." 🏨Accommodation: Nearby, Maijishan Mingzhu Hotel and Maijishan Hot Spring Hotel offer food and accommodation.
