Follow the Red Footprints

Yunnan's revolutionary history is an important part of China's modern revolutionary history. From the Revolution of 1911 to the National Protection Movement, from the Long March to the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, to the War of Liberation and the socialist construction after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the people of Yunnan have always stood at the forefront of the revolution and made important contributions to China's liberation and development. This trip to Yunnan was mainly in the western part of Yunnan. With infinite mourning and remembrance, we visited the former residence of Nie Er in Kunming Old Street with our children; we went to the National Cemetery to pay tribute to the martyrs and review the difficult journey of the expeditionary army's resistance against Japan and the hard cooperation of the people of western Yunnan. It was the first time for us to visit the former residence of Ai Siqi with our children and learn about the legendary life of the great thinker who worked hard and made progress. Ai Siqi, whose real name was Li Shengxuan, was a famous Chinese Marxist philosopher and educator. Ai Siqi's main works include "Popular Philosophy", "Philosophy and Life", etc. These works explain the basic principles of Marxist philosophy in simple and easy-to-understand language, making it easier for ordinary readers to accept. His work not only promoted the spread of Marxist philosophy in China, but also made important contributions to the development of Chinese philosophy. We also went to Heshun Library together to explore its history. Its predecessor was the Xianxin Society, a progressive cultural group in the late Qing Dynasty, and the Reading Newspaper Society organized around the May Fourth Movement. In 1928, the Reading Newspaper Society was expanded into a library and named "Heshun Library". - In 1938, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the library, the old site was rebuilt into a larger Chinese and Western-style library. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the library also became the strategic command center of the 20th Army Group of the Expeditionary Force. - In 1980, the library was incorporated into the national public library system. - In 1998, the "Cangzhen Building", a two-story steel and concrete building in ancient style, was built to collect ancient books, rare books, and local documents. Lin Weiyin once lived in Kunming for more than two years, and when she passed through the hometown of her friend Shen Congwen in Yuanling County, she lamented in a letter: "If it were not for the sadness and sorrow in my heart during this war, I would not know how many lives I would have to live for this trip."
