In its early years, Ximending was primarily a movie theater. After the completion of the China Plaza, it briefly became Taiwan's largest entertainment center. Later, commercial entertainment gradually shifted to the East District, and with the demolition of the China Plaza, Ximending fell silent for a while. It wasn't until the completion of the Bannan Line of the MRT that the crowds returned! Now, Ximending is a landmark entertainment center, home to the over-100-year-old Red House, the Instagram-famous Wannian Building, and a variety of international restaurants and cafes.
