Nanshe Memorial Hall

Nanshe, a renowned literary society and cultural organization in modern China, was founded on November 13, 1909, by Chen Qubing, Gao Xu, and Liu Yazi at Zhanggong Ancestral Hall on Shantang Street in Suzhou. Influenced by the Tongmenghui led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Nanshe took its name from the phrase "singing southern tunes to remember one's roots," advocating national integrity and playing a crucial role in preparing public opinion for the 1911 Revolution. In 2008, to commemorate Nanshe's centenary, the Suzhou Municipal Government decided to restore Zhanggong Ancestral Hall in Tiger Hill's Shantang area and establish the "China Nanshe Memorial Hall." Officially opened on November 13, 2009, it was designated as a patriotic education base. In 2016, the memorial expanded its exhibitions, enhanced display quality, and broadened its services, becoming a key platform for promoting Nanshe culture.
