Snow-breaking cherry blossoms at Kuwatayama

📍Kuwatayama Roughly halfway up Banjamori, the "Yukiwari Sakura" (snow-breaking cherry tree) blooms, famous for its beautiful deep pink flowers. Its official name is "Tsubakikanzakura" (camellia winter cherry tree). This cherry tree is very rare, blooming during the cold season when snow still remains, from mid-February to mid-March, and there are nearly 1,000 of them in the entire Kuwatayama area. Although it is called "Yukiwari Sakura" locally, its official name is "Tsubakikanzakura" (camellia winter cherry tree), and it is believed to be a hybrid of Shinamizakura and Kanzakura or Kanhizakura.
