A Stroll in Osaka's Suburbs - Expo '70 Commemorative Park

Initially, I visited the Expo '70 Commemorative Park with a casual mindset, thinking it would just be a quick stop. However, it turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of my Kansai trip. The park is located on the site of the 1970 World Expo, which was the first World Expo held in Asia, with Osaka as the host city. The most striking feature of the park is undoubtedly the Tower of the Sun, designed by Taro Okamoto. Seeing it in person is far more impressive than any photo—it exudes a mysterious and powerful energy. What truly moved me, though, was the Japanese garden tucked quietly behind the sunlight. Mid-September in Osaka is still quite hot, and the blazing sun can be overwhelming. But stepping into the garden, I was greeted by a refreshing breeze and the lush greenery around the heart-shaped pond, instantly calming my mind. Photos might not fully capture the tranquility and beauty of the scene, but I can assure you, this feeling is worth experiencing firsthand. The garden features not only ponds but also a dry landscape garden and a bamboo-lined path. Walking through the bamboo path felt like stepping out of reality—my worries vanished, and I felt much lighter. The park also houses the National Museum of Ethnology, but I didn’t have enough time to visit it. Next time, I’ll make sure to allocate more time to explore the park thoroughly. It feels like there are still many hidden corners waiting to be discovered, making it worth a return visit. In terms of transportation, it takes about an hour by car from Shinsaibashi. The park closes at 5 PM, so it’s best to plan your time accordingly. The entrance fee is around HKD 13, which is a great deal, especially if you enjoy photography or are looking for a peaceful spot to unwind.
