This course is the birthplace of golf. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (English: The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in the world. It has always been the governing body of golf, until 2004 when its authority was transferred to the newly established organization The R&A. The club was founded in 1754, originally called the Society of St Andrews Golfers. In 1834, King William IV of the United Kingdom became its patron, and the club officially changed to its current name. Starting in 1897, the club continuously standardized golf over the next 30 years, and it naturally became the governing body of golf. Such a beautiful lawn is key for practicing golf.
