The turbulent history has left Siracusa with a kind of decaying beauty This is my second favorite small town in Sicily The morning fish market is filled with the scent of swordfish and lemons Locals bargain in Sicilian dialect While around the corner you might suddenly encounter a Norman-style archway Every inch of scenery here looks like a frame from "Malèna" The square where Malèna once walked still has me sitting there daydreaming In the afternoon, at the end of an alley, you'll find Cala Rossa This isn't a traditional sandy beach Only porous lava formed from volcanic eruptions The platform carved by tides forms natural bathtubs We sprawl on the rocks basking in sunlight The near-shore seawater is transparent light green, like mint liqueur Further out it gradually deepens into an intense blue Reminding you it's the same sea Archimedes once gazed upon The beauty of Siracusa lies in its contradictions It's both the land of wisdom where Archimedes moved the earth with a lever And the everyday corner where fishermen mend their nets The grandeur of ancient Greece and the sweetness of the Mediterranean finally reconciled —"Syracuse where the sun always shines" - 🧾Sharing my itinerary Local market→Temple of Apollo→Piazza del Duomo→Siracusa Cathedral→Castello Maniace→Cala Rossa→Cod da Saretta (great value delicious restaurant) - I'm Zoey, exploring the world beyond boundaries with you🗺️
