Sigiriya - Sri Lanka

Sigiriya (Lion Rock): Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country’s most iconic landmarks. Historical Significance: Built in the 5th century AD by King Kashyapa as his palace and stronghold. Architecture: Features impressive engineering with water gardens, moats, and a sophisticated hydraulic system. Frescos: The rock contains ancient frescoes of celestial maidens known as "Sigiriya Damsels." Mirror Wall: A polished wall with ancient graffiti from visitors dating back to the 8th century. Lion’s Gate: The entrance is marked by massive lion paws carved into the rock, giving it the name "Lion Rock." Importance: Sigiriya is considered one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning in South Asia.
