Kunozan Toshogu Shrine | The national treasure shrine where Tokugawa Ieyasu rests

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is located in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City, and is a shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Ieyasu was buried here in 1616, and the shrine was built by the second shogun, Tokugawa Hidetada. The main hall, stone room, and worship hall, which are currently designated national treasures, are lavishly decorated in the "Gongen-zukuri" style and are known for their architecture, which brought together the highest level of technology at the time. The shrine grounds also contain Ieyasu's shrine and a museum that displays historical materials, making it a must-see spot for history fans. Mount Kuno can be accessed by climbing the 1,159 stone steps of the main approach, or by taking the Nihon-daira ropeway. We took the ropeway on the way there and the stone steps on the way back!
