It is operated by JR East Tohoku Main Line and is the main gateway to Shirakawa Komine Castle and Shirakawa City's historical attractions. The station itself is not large, but it is very close to many attractions, such as Shirakawa Komine Castle (also known as Shirakawa Castle) located opposite the station. From the platform, you can even directly overlook the castle tower and stone wall. The station also has a tourist information center, souvenir shop and simple waiting area.
