Day 7 of 2025 Lunar New Year Trip to Fujian and Guangdong: Shantou Mayu Island Tour

Yesterday, I visited Xiaogongyuan. Today, I planned to go around Nan'ao Island. I checked the navigation early in the morning and found that the Nan'ao Bridge was already congested. It would take a whole day to go back and forth, and most of the time would probably be spent stuck in traffic. So, I decided to give up on that plan! I still wanted to find a place to explore, so I searched for nearby attractions and decided to go to Mayu Island. It was very close to the hotel I was staying at, just a ten-minute drive, and it was also an island, although it seemed a bit small. I arrived at Mayu Island at 10 am. The parking lot was large, and there were already many cars parked there. The parking fee was very cheap. I left Mayu Island at around 1 pm, and it only cost 4 yuan for over 3 hours. Mayu Island is located at the mouth of the sea in Shantou City, with a strategic geographical location and rich scenic resources, including natural landscapes such as mountains, seas, forests, rocks, and beaches, as well as historical and cultural resources such as human relics. Mayu Island is not large. The east side has beaches, seaside roads, and boardwalks, with attractions like Taoshu Pavilion and the former site of the Chao Customs Tax Office on the mountain. The west side has fishing villages and Mazu Temple. The island offers both scenic beauty and historical culture. It takes at least half a day to explore the entire island, making it a leisurely experience. The murals on the village walls are very distinctive!
