A Spring "Trio" of Art: Painting and Sculpture

These three male artists of different ages have created works that are remarkably fresh, charming, and full of childlike wonder. Just in time for spring, the ducks 🦆 in the pond at the entrance evoke the image of "the duck knows first when the river warms in spring." Zdenek Konvalina, an internationally renowned ballet dancer from the Czech Republic, has white blocks, like fluttering butterflies 🦋, dotted around the exhibition hall. Together with the fresh "spring colors," birdsong 🐦, and flower 🌸 fragrance, they create a spring "concerto" 🎵🎻🎺. The sculptures by another artist, Zhou Yuan, resemble impromptu dances—he never relies on prior planning or "rehearsals," but instead entrusts the shaping process entirely to intuitive and physical impulses, as if incorporating playful, cute, and lively scherzos 🎵🎷🥁 into the concerto 🎼. 🎨Exhibition Name: Trio 🗓Exhibition Dates: Feb 22–Apr 20, 2025 ⏰Visiting Hours: Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00 (Closed on Mondays) 📮Venue: Yu Space, A104-A105, JK1933, 1040 North Suzhou Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai 💰Admission: Free 🆓, no reservation required 🌟Highlights: Featuring over thirty works by Huang Long, Zhou Yuan, and Zdenek Konvalina. Centered around the concept of a trio, the exhibition generates an ongoing, flowing movement through the intersection of motion, materiality, and language.

Shanghai Museum

#discoverchina One can never visit Shanghai without visiting the iconic Shanghai Museum. If one were to do so, it’s like a man missing the opportunity to get culturally educated and inspired and it is one of the best curated museums in Shanghai. As it was their local school holiday on the date of our visit, the entrance was extremely crowded with long queues of visitors. It could be the tight security screening at the entrance that hindered the queue from shortening quickly. We spent at least half an hour to queue in order to enter the museum. Inside the museum, there were different levels catering to different types of artifacts and history to be shared. During my visit the 1st floor of the museum has been occupied by a big Egyptian special exhibit (which charges a quite high entrance fee, and doesn’t seem to warrant a visit), the content of the 3rd floor of the museum has been moved out to the Shanghai Museum East Building. The available exhibits are Marco Polo special exhibit (on the 2nd floor), and the All things glittering exhibit, the Ming-Qing Furniture exhibit, and the Chinese Minority Nationality Art exhibit on the 4th floor. The entire exhibit can be visited in about a hour.
