Sandan Junma Field is located in Sandan County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. It is the largest military horse farm in China, with a history of over 2,100 years. It can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty and was founded by Huo Qubing, the champion marquis and general of the flying cavalry. I. About Transportation 1. High-speed rail for outbound journey: Lanzhou, Xining, and Zhangye all have high-speed rail lines directly to Junma Field (the snow mountain scenery on the way to Zhangye is in Seat F!). 2. High-speed rail for return journey to city center: Important note!! Searching for "Zhangye" online will not show the high-speed rail from Sandan Junma Field back to Zhangye city center. You must enter "Zhangye West"!!!! 3. Vehicles from high-speed rail station to Junma Field: There are many black cars waiting for passengers outside the station. Prices are unknown, but we contacted the Junma Field coach in advance and he picked us up. We left our luggage in his car and he only charged us 80 yuan for the round trip. II. Scenic Area Tickets and Horseback Riding Prices 1. Scenic area tickets: Scenic area tickets are required for horseback riding routes 3 or 4. Tickets cost 65 yuan. 2. Sightseeing bus: 20 yuan, stops at two locations: Biaoqi General Camp and Observation Deck. The sightseeing bus runs in a loop. If you miss the bus at the first stop, wait for the next one. 3. Horseback riding tickets: Prices vary by route. Route 4 is 260 yuan/person. III. Junma Field Horseback Riding Routes and Herd Drinking Water 1. Route 3 goes to Biaoqi General Camp (where the herd drinks water). Route 4 is a loop around the scenic area, going to the observation deck. After resting and taking photos, ride back on horseback (the longest route, taking about 2 hours, assuming the horse runs. Otherwise, it will take more than 2 hours). Route 4 is highly recommended, as it faces the snow mountains. Horseback riding enthusiasts may even find it too short. 2. Herd Drinking Water: The herd drinks water at Biaoqi General Camp. Between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm, someone will drive the herd over to drink water. However, it also depends on luck. If it rains or there are other circumstances, they may not come out. You can arrange your horseback riding or sightseeing time accordingly on the day. You can either go directly to the camp on Route 3 or ride back to the entrance and take the sightseeing bus to wait there. IV. About Coaches and Horseback Riding Experiences Junma Field currently uses a queuing system. After purchasing tickets, everyone queues up and is assigned a horse from the same stable. 1. Coaches: First of all, coaches are free and very important!!! Why are they important? Because your horse may not run, and you may not dare to run yourself. Among the people in the queue, there may be professional horseback riding coaches or ordinary horse-raising herders. There may be no communication throughout the ride, or the horse may not run much for safety reasons. If you want to experience the feeling of galloping on the grassland, you must find the right coach. V.
