The garden itself is absolutely beautiful with many picturesque areas. Even though it's right in Seoul, the garden is peaceful, tranquil, and quiet. Plan to spend a hour (or more) there if you want to see everything, as it is a good size. The gardens were created at the same time as the palace. Many of the pavilions were destroyed during the Japanese invasion of 1592. Restoration work began in 1623, leading to its present appearance.
