The oldest temple in Seoul, Bongeunsa Temple

#traveldiaries Founded in Year 794 during the Shilla Dynasty under the reign of King Wonseong, and continue to reigned across the Goryeo Dynasty. The current structure is rebuilt in Year 1498 under Queen Jeonghyeon during the Joseon Dynasty, who revived Buddhism for a certain time. In Year 1548 Monk Bou was appointed Head of Temple but was killed by the anti-Buddhism factions. Today, it is one of the most prominent temple in Seoul offering Templestay programme to visitors. Today, Bongeunsa became the subordinate of the Jogye Order, the biggest sect of Buddhism in Korea.
