Pena Palace, a fairytale palace in Sintra

The palace was built on top of Serra de Sintra on the site of a former monastery built in the 16th century. In 1838 the monastery was acquired by King Fernando II. He was the main driving force behind the construction of Pena Palace by refurbishing the old buildings and constructing a new wing. The palace served as a summer palace for the royal family. Be prepared to send at least 2 hours there as the palace is huge and if you have time you should also spend some time at the beautiful park around the palace.
