Blue wonders in Samarkand - the doors of the Silk Road

#myhiddengems This summer we decided to visit the ancient town of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Getting There: ✈️ we arrived via flight from Istanbul, there are many international flights going to Samarkand. The airport is not big but there are many people *we got out local SIM cards in the airport. Very easy and cheap (around 50k som for 1 week 30 to 50 gigabytes depending on which mobile company to choose) 🚂 many trains arrives at the train station daily from the main Uzbek cities. Both slow trains and high speed trains (afrosyob) 🚗 you can arrive by tax/driver or renting a car. From Nurota to Samarkand we paid 40 USD for a private car - around 3-4 hours drive. Attractions: - Amir timur mausoleum - Registan square (ulugh bek, tilla kari, sher dor madrassah) suggested time to visit 5-6 PM - Bibi khanym mosque - Syoob bazar - remember to negotiate the prices! It’s a cultural practice - Hazrat mosque - Shah-I-zinda mausoleum 💙 (my fav) If you have time to spare you can visit also: - Tomb of Daniel - Ulubek observatory - Paper making factory - Pottery factory - Silk factory Hotels: I suggest to stay close to the main attractions so that you easily walk around. But you can go around with taxis with only 7k-14k som per ride. Food: - Samarkand bread - Somsa with potatoes/beef/chicken - Amazing 🤩 kebabs - Manti dumplings with beef and onions - Langman noodles with beef I suggest you to eat plov only in Plov centers #samarkand #historicallandmarks #localguides #trip #instatravel #uzbekistan #myhiddengems
