Bhumibol Dam

Bhumibol Dam, also known as Yanhee Dam, is the first multi-purpose dam in Thailand. It is a large concrete arch dam, the tallest in Thailand and Southeast Asia, and is ranked 8th in the world. It is 154 meters high from the base to the crest of the dam, blocking the Ping River at Ban Khao Kaeo, Sam Ngao District. It was built to generate electricity and for irrigation. The length of the river from the dam to Hot District, Chiang Mai Province is 207 kilometers. The area around Bhumibol Dam is a place for relaxation and breeding freshwater animals. In addition, Bhumibol Dam has created a nature study trail on both sides of the Ping River above the Bhumibol Dam reservoir in the Mae Tuen National Forest Reserve. It is a study trail for the diversity of the montane forest area and the restoration of the forest, as well as studying the characteristics of the dry dipterocarp forest, mixed deciduous forest, the diversity of mountains, streams and waterfalls, so that tourists have the opportunity to experience nature up close.
