Prasat Sdok Kok Thom

Prasat Sdok Kok Thom, a large and important ancient site in Sa Kaeo Province and the largest Khmer ancient site in the eastern region, is located at Ban Nong Samet, Tambon Khok Sung. It is believed that it was built in the 14th Buddhist century to house religious images and perform rituals according to the beliefs of Hinduism. The word Sdok Kok Thom means “a city with reeds growing in a large swamp”. Currently, the large swamp in the past can still be seen near the castle. Prasat Sdok Kok Thom consists of 3 castles facing east, surrounded by a moat on 4 sides, and 2 layers of walls. The outer layer is made of laterite and the inner layer is made of sandstone. The castle itself is made of sandstone. Only the gopuras or gates remain on the east and west sides. Inside the covered walkway, there are 2 sandstone libraries in front of the central castle, which is the main prang. Outside the castle on the east side, there is a large rectangular pond. There is a stone-paved road from the castle to the pond. #Sa Kaeo
