#mytraveldiary Visiting Castel Sant'Angelo was a journey through time, from its origins as Emperor Hadrian's mausoleum to its role as a papal fortress. We loved exploring the different levels of the castle, from the ancient tomb to the dramatic ramparts. The highlight was walking the Passetto di Borgo, the elevated corridor that connects the castle to the Vatican, and imagining popes using it to escape danger. The panoramic views of Rome and the Tiber River from the rooftop are simply incredible, with St. Peter's Basilica standing out beautifully.
