Rome - The Pantheon

Built in 27 BC by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa to commemorate the Battle of Actium, the Pantheon was destroyed by fire in 80 AD and later rebuilt under Emperor Hadrian's orders in 125 AD. In 609 AD, the Pope of Rome converted the Pantheon into a church, renaming it the "Church of St. Mary and the Martyrs," dedicated to the Virgin Mary and martyrs. 🏛️The Pantheon is constructed with concrete, blending Greek architectural techniques. Its entrance is supported by multiple Corinthian granite columns, while the main hall features a vast open space without any supporting pillars. The massive circular dome has a central oculus, symbolizing a connection to heaven☁️ and enhancing interior lighting. From an architectural perspective, Michelangelo praised it as "the design of angels." When I visited, there wasn’t much of a queue, and upon entering, the entire hall was visible at a glance. The main attraction was its architectural design—simple yet exquisite. The natural light✨ streaming through the oculus indeed gave a sacred feeling. As the sun☀️ moved, the angle of light inside the hall shifted, making the interior resemble a giant clock. Since I don’t have much knowledge of architecture, I spent less time here compared to other Roman landmarks (around 15 minutes).
