Hiking the Adolf Munkel Weg Trail in the Dolomites

The Dolomites in Northern Italy are a paradise for nature lovers, offering vast landscapes with numerous cable cars and hiking trails. This time, we explored the classic Adolf Munkel Weg trail located in the Val di Funes valley. The trail runs along the northern (shaded) side of the Geisler/Odle Group, while the sunny side features the iconic Seceda ridge. This path takes you through forests and meadows, providing an up-close experience of the majestic Odle mountain range. With an elevation gain of approximately 440 meters, the trail is considered easy to moderate, depending on the length and route you choose to take. On clear days, the stunning peaks of the Geisler/Odle Group are fully visible. During the first half of our hike, we were fortunate to enjoy these breathtaking views. However, rain in the latter half obscured the peaks, as they shyly hid behind the clouds. Along the trail, there are several welcoming mountain huts with great views. Due to the rain, we decided to dine indoors, but the outdoor covered areas still offered a chance to admire the Odle mountains rising dramatically like blades slicing through the sky. After our meal, we opted to take an alternate route down the mountain.
