[Rebun Island] How to enjoy Rebun Island, Hokkaido when it rains ☂

Date visited: End of June 2023 Rebun Island, the northernmost inhabited island, is famous for its rich nature that is different from the mainland. For that reason, many people come here for the purpose of hiking and touring to enjoy nature. However, many people may be worried about what to do if it rains. So I will explain based on my own experience! [How to get there] Since there are no airplanes to Rebun Island, you can visit by ferry from Wakkanai Port or Rishiri Island. There is only one port, "Kafuko Port". When I went there, there was a campaign where one-way ferries were free, so please check it out when you go! [Accommodation & Food] It is convenient because there are many accommodations and restaurants around Kafuko Port. You can stay at a guesthouse relatively cheaply. At night, there are mainly izakayas and snack bars, but the atmosphere is suitable for children. There is also a supermarket, and I bought a plastic umbrella (about 500 yen). [Sightseeing] It is possible to go hiking even if it is raining. There is a hiking course called "Momoiwa Observatory Course" that can be reached on foot from Kafuka Port. Please note that umbrellas are prohibited (raincoats are recommended) and that the wind is stronger than the rain. Part of the course is paved with boardwalks, so the mud wasn't too much of a problem. There were tour groups on the short section to the observation deck, so why not try it even in a little rain? A few minutes by bus is "Canaria Park," famous as a filming location for movies. However, please note that in bad weather, Rishiri Fuji is often not visible. You can enjoy the hot springs even in bad weather. It is located in the middle of a port town, so even if your accommodation has a bath, be sure to go! #hotsprings #remoteislandtrip #hiking

Rebun Island Trekking Momoiwa Observatory Course This is the most famous trekking course where you can enjoy the floating island of flowers, Rebun Island, where alpine plants bloom. It takes just under 10 minutes by bus from the ferry terminal to the Momoiwa trailhead. From the Momoiwa trailhead, it is a 5.3km (2 hours) journey. You can see most of the flowers blooming on Rebun Island and Mount Rishiri. They say that the best time to see them is June to July. (I went on a bad trip at a bad time, so there weren't many flowers in bloom 😂) The trekking course starts with a slight hill climb, but after that there are only a few gentle ups and downs. Even those who are not confident in their legs can enjoy trekking with peace of mind. However, be careful of strong winds, so you need to take measures to avoid being blown away when you go trekking! #Remote Island Trip #Rebun Island #Northernmost Island
