Yaowang Mountain in Quzhou, a great place for spring outings

Yaowang Mountain in Quzhou is located in Huangtankou Township, Qujiang District, Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, 34 kilometers from downtown Quzhou. It is situated within Ziwei Mountain National Forest Park, covering a total area of 15 square kilometers. In 2011, it was rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction. It is a tourist destination that combines natural scenery with traditional Chinese medicine culture. Natural attractions and cultural sites are interwoven in an orderly manner; it is said that Emperor Yan Shennong once gathered herbs here. Historical records mention famous Quzhou doctors Liu Guangda and Yang Jizhou; nationally renowned doctors Li Shizhen, Hua Tuo, Sun Simiao, Liu Shenwei, and others successively gathered herbs and lived here. The forest coverage rate in the scenic area exceeds 97%, with nearly a thousand species of plants and animals and more than 400 kinds of precious Chinese medicinal materials. The dense distribution and variety of medicinal materials are remarkable, hence the name "Yaowang Mountain." Currently, admission is free, and weekends see many visitors. Basic Information Opening Hours: 08:30-16:30, recommended visit time 3-4 hours. Ticket Information: From November 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, general admission is free. Glass Bridge + Slide combo ticket is 79 RMB per person. Normally, the general admission ticket costs 65 RMB. Transportation Guide Self-driving: Depart from downtown Quzhou, take Huangqunan Expressway, exit at Yaowang Mountain, about a 1-hour drive. Parking fee at the main entrance parking lot is 10 RMB per day. Bus: Take bus route 545 directly to the main entrance of the scenic area, fare 2 RMB per person, about 60 minutes ride. Bus 545 departs from Quzhou Tourism Distribution Center, first bus at 06:30, last bus at 17:10; from Yaowang Mountain, first bus at 06:20, last bus at 17:10, with intervals of 30-50 minutes. Specific departure times can be checked on the "Palm Bus" app. Must-Visit Attractions Mawei Waterfall: The iconic landscape of Yaowang Mountain, with a drop of nearly 100 meters, resembling a white horse’s tail rushing down. In the early morning, there is mist; at noon, rainbows can be seen; in the evening, the sunset bathes it in orange-red light, creating a spectacular view. Yaowang Temple: Hidden halfway up the mountain, with yellow walls and dark tiles contrasting with sweetgum trees. Inside the hall is a 3-meter-high statue of Sun Simiao. The courtyard’s "Hundred Herbs Terrace" displays various medicinal materials, where visitors can learn about traditional Chinese medicine culture. Wild Monkey Field: Located 800 meters along the trail west of Yaowang Temple, dozens of macaques jump and play here. Visitors can observe the monkeys’ habits up close, and many feed them. Glass Bridge: Spanning between two mountains, 180 meters long and 120 meters above the ground. The bridge deck is made of three layers of tempered glass, slightly shaking when stepped on, allowing visitors to enjoy the mountain scenery in midair. Early mornings often feature a sea of clouds. Recommended Routes Easy Family Route (2 hours): Scenic area entrance → Shennong Pond → Hundred Herbs Garden → Medicinal Cuisine Hall → Mawei Waterfall → Return. Classic Panorama Route (3 hours): Scenic area entrance → Shennong Pond → Mawei Waterfall → Glass Bridge → Glass Slide → Return. In-depth Hiking Route (4 hours): Entirely on foot without glass attractions, exploring the original trails in the back mountain.
