Former Honglin Machinery Factory

The former Honglin Machinery Factory is located in Chuandong Village, Honglin Yi and Miao Ethnic Township, Qianxi City, Guizhou Province. It was a product of the "Third Front" construction period. It was built in 1966 and put into operation in 1970. Its military industry code was 143. It was originally an enterprise specializing in the production of fighter engine oil pumps and their accessories. Its main factory building was built in a natural karst cave called "Chuandong", which is 180m long, 20m high and 30m wide. The factory building is a three-story frame-structured industrial building with a total construction area of 8,670 square meters and 215 rooms. It has multiple workshops such as heat treatment, non-standard manufacturing, and assembly testing, forming a complete production line. During its peak period, the factory had thousands of employees, plus their families, totaling seven or eight thousand people, and implemented military management. The living area was fully equipped with facilities, including an employee club, auditorium, dormitory, hospital, and school, resembling a town. In 1990, the Honglin Machinery Factory moved to the Xiaohe Economic and Technological Development Zone in Guiyang. The original site basically retains its original layout and is a highly representative industrial heritage of the "Third Front" construction. Buildings such as the factory office building, main factory building, and oxygen production workshop still exist, and most of the original living facilities have been converted to civilian use. In 2008, the cultural relics survey team of Qianxi County registered the main factory building of the Honglin Machinery Factory as a newly discovered immovable cultural relic. In 2011, Honglin Township became a protection site for "Third Front Construction Intangible Culture". In 2018, the former site was announced as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit.
