Pune: A City of Culture, Hills, and Hidden Soul

#cityplaybook #postandearn My visit to Pune wasn’t planned with grand expectations—but it ended up being one of the most fulfilling travel experiences I’ve had in India. Pune is where tradition meets modernity, where history whispers from old forts while youthful energy pulses through its vibrant cafes, universities, and bustling markets. What struck me first was the laid-back pace of life. I visited in early December, and the weather was just perfect—cool mornings, warm afternoons, and evenings with a slight chill that made walking around an absolute pleasure. One of my favorite moments was hiking up Sinhagad Fort at sunrise. The view of the mist-covered Sahyadri Hills, the wind carrying stories of Maratha valor, and the taste of piping hot kanda bhaji and buttermilk at the top made it a memory that stayed with me. I spent time exploring Shaniwar Wada, soaking in the history of the Peshwa empire, and later wandered through Koregaon Park, where tree-lined avenues lead to serene cafes, boutiques, and the famous Osho Ashram. Pune is a city of contrasts—old-world charm in places like Tulshibaug and Parvati Hill, and a modern edge in areas like Baner, Viman Nagar, and FC Road. What mattered most to me was the authenticity. Pune doesn’t try to impress—it just is. From the warmth of the locals to the mouthwatering Maharashtrian thalis, from heritage sites to thriving art and music scenes, Pune invites you in slowly, but leaves a deep impression. Best Time to Visit: October to February—ideal for sightseeing, treks, and cultural events like Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav. Bonus Tip: If you’re up for a short drive, visit Lavasa or Mulshi Dam for scenic getaways. And don’t miss a visit to Vaishali Restaurant for iconic South Indian food!
