See the magnificent 30-foot wide natural sandstone rock bridge

Natural Bridge State Park, Kentucky, USA While on Spring Break in KY we we rode a sky lift up to experience spectacular mountain views. The ride up was about a mile long ride. It was a peaceful ride with a river below us. Once at the top the views were amazing. We then walked a short distance to the natural bridge which spans an impressive 78 feet and is over 65 feet high. The natural process of weathering formed the arch over millions of years. It's mind blowing that it was made completely naturally, the lines of the bridge are so sleek and it arches so gracefully. It's truly a treasure that should be seen by all. We walked across it and looked out and the views were gorgeous, it was a breathtaking scene all around. The park contains about 2,300 acres and is part of the Daniel Boone National Forest so when you look out you see green forests of mountains everywhere. You can also walk under the arch to see views from below. To get to that area you have to walk down some steps and pass through a stretch known as “Fat Man’s Misery” which was a slot that was maybe only 18" wide in some spots so you had to turn and shinmy sideways to get out. The view of the bridge from below was fantastic. Once we were done at the bridge we decided we were going to hike back down the mountain and explore parts of it. We followed along signs for "Devil’s Gulch." It was a steep stairway and was a beast to tackle. Lots of breaks going up the stairs and this area was also wet so a little slippery, we had to be very careful with the kids. I believe we were on Battleship Rock Trail for most of our hike back down but the signs were confusing and we didn't want to be left up there come sun down so as soon as we saw a roof to a building we headed in that direction hoping it was close to where we had parked. It ended up being a lodge area with a restaurant and gift shop so we followed the road it was on all the way down to the end. It seemed like forever until we got service and figured out that we were actually going the right direction. If I had to guess it was about a 1 mile hike from that lodge to the car. Let's just say this hike ranks among one of the most interesting we’ve taken as a family thus far but 1000% the most beautiful. We definitely want to return and explore more of this area as there is absolutely way too much to see and we just didn't have enough time to see it all but we are so thankful for what we did get to experience and next time we will be getting a printed map so we don't get lost without service again!!! #hikingadventures #travel #familytravel #mountains #exploring #skylift #sandstone #seekadventure #springbreakfun #kidsexperiences #kentucky #naturalwonders
