Once the longest railway tunnel, the Caoling Tunnel.
Location: At the border between Gongliao District, New Taipei City, and Toucheng Town, Yilan County
Introduction: The 'Old Caoling Tunnel', with a total length of 2,167 meters, used to connect Fulong to Shicheng. In the early days, the treacherous terrain made travel between Yilan and Taipei extremely difficult, causing great hardship for travelers. During the Japanese colonial period, the construction of the railway was undertaken, with the Caoling Tunnel through the Caoling Mountain Range being the most challenging and dangerous part. The tunnel was completed in February 1924. Later, due to the insufficiency of a single-track operation, a new Caoling Tunnel was constructed in 1986, and the old tunnel was closed and left idle for nearly 20 years. After years of effort by the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration, the tunnel was officially opened on August 10, 2008, as Northern Taiwan's first railway tunnel converted into a cycling tunnel. It has also received international recognition with the 'Tomorrow's Tourism Award WTTC' and was named one of Taiwan's top ten classic cycling routes. Visitors can ride bicycles to experience its original appearance; additionally, the administration also provides two hand-pedaled rail bikes at the northern entrance of the tunnel for free rental to visitors with mobility issues, allowing more people to enjoy the tunnel and feel its nostalgic railway charm.
Opening Hours: 8:30-17:30
Admission: Free
Experience: The Caoling Tunnel was once one of the longest railway tunnels in Taiwan. It's rare to have the opportunity to ride a bicycle through such a long tunnel. Moreover, the tunnel crosses Yilan and New Taipei, and it only takes twenty minutes by bicycle to reach another city, which is a special experience.

Comfort Hotel Kitami
Comfort Hotel is considered a business hotel. We have stayed at several when we visited Sendai in the Northeast before, and we had a good impression of them because their logo is a ball, and the kids simply call it the 'Ball Ball Hotel'. This time, because we drove and parked directly at their hotel parking lot, we entered through the side door, so I actually forgot to take pictures of the main entrance and the front desk! But we were really super lucky, there was still space in the hotel parking lot and it was free!
On the first floor, simple welcome drinks like coffee are available for self-service, and towels, yukatas, and toothbrushes can also be taken freely. There is also information available for breakfast crowd surveys for reference. The restaurant is on the first floor, with a simple and bright environment.
The room has two beds, very simple and clean, with enough space to open a suitcase - just the basic clean and simple. However, when my brother was about to take a shower, the switch for the shower head fell off, making it unusable, so we quickly called the hotel front desk. They sent someone to look at it and immediately changed our room to the same type.
Breakfast is buffet style, and although there aren't many varieties, you can definitely get full, and overall it's not bad.

Staying at the Jienan Shuwu Hotel in the Dongguan Historical Street District of Yangzhou.
I stumbled upon this Jienan Shuwu while strolling down Dongguan Street. At first, I thought it was a place for dining and gatherings, but then I discovered it's actually a fantastic hotel with a garden-style landscape. The garden features a boat crossing, as well as stone bridges, ponds, bamboo groves, corridors, pavilions, and more. Although the garden is not very large, it's a quintessential Chinese garden with a view at every step. There are twelve scenic spots within the area, hence it is also known as the 'Twelve Scenic Spots of Jienan'. Tucked away in the bustling Dongguan alleyways, it offers a peaceful retreat amidst the noise, with beautiful and elegant garden scenery to enjoy and photograph!

Taiwan's First Railway Tunnel, the Liu Mingchuan Tunnel
Location: No. 129, Chongde Road, Anle District, Keelung City
Introduction: The Liu Mingchuan Tunnel is a city-designated historic site, also known as the Shiqiuling Tunnel. During the eleventh year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign, Liu Mingchuan, the Governor of Taiwan, actively developed Taiwan, promoted the Westernization Movement, and advocated for the establishment of railways.
In the thirteenth year of Guangxu, he was granted permission to establish the 'General Bureau of Railways and Commerce of Taiwan'. The first section from Keelung through Taipei to Hsinchu was constructed, among which the tunnel project at Shiqiuling in Keelung was the most challenging. Work began in the spring of the fourteenth year of Guangxu and was not completed until the summer of the sixteenth year, taking a total of thirty months to break through; the Shiqiuling Tunnel is approximately 235 meters long, the first railway-exclusive tunnel in Taiwan, and the only railway tunnel from the Qing Dynasty period.
Tickets: Free
Experience: Taiwan's first railway tunnel holds significant historical value and meaning. In an era when technology was not advanced, the ability to carve such a tunnel can truly be described as conquering nature. It is well worth a visit.

The Famous Landmark of Miaoli, Longteng Broken Bridge
Location: On Miaoli County Highway 49 in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County
Introduction: Longteng, formerly known as 'Fish Vine Flat', is named after a legend where the early settlers were troubled by a carp spirit in the Carp Pond. To subdue the mischievous carp spirit, the settlers planted fish vine throughout the Longteng mountain area. At the same time, they named the high mountain to the east 'Guandao Mountain', with the intention of using Guandao Mountain to cut the fish vine and poison the carp spirit. Eventually, the fish monster ceased to harm the people, and the residents lived and worked in peace and contentment. After World War II, when villages were established in Taiwan, the villagers thought the name 'Fish Vine' was inelegant and renamed it Longteng.
On the morning of April 21, 1935, a major earthquake struck central Taiwan, with the epicenter near Guandao Mountain. The Sanyi area was severely affected, and the majestic Longxi Bridge on the mountain railway line was completely destroyed. After the earthquake, a new bridge was built to the west of the original bridge, leaving behind the arched pillars standing in the sun and wind, as a memorial for future generations. When passing through Sanyi by train, the sight of the Longteng Broken Bridge remnants is striking and leaves a deep impression.
Tickets: Free
Opening Hours: All day
Experience: The Longteng Broken Bridge is certainly one of the very famous attractions. It has taken its current form due to the impact of Taiwan's largest earthquake, the 921 earthquake, which is a stark reminder of the terrifying power of nature. Next to it is the second-generation Longteng railway bridge, allowing visitors to appreciate both the first and second-generation bridges at the same time.

The Annual Cherry Blossom Viewing Spot - Turtle Head Isle in March
March is the time to visit the Turtle Head Isle in Wuxi!
The charm and beauty of Turtle Head Isle in March are simply enchanting!
By the end of this March, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom; miss it and you'll have to wait until next year!
We entered from the Turtle Head Isle Archway and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Li Lake on the way to the Visitor's Heart. Then, walking along the pedestrian path, we passed through Yixiu Bridge to the Cherry Blossom Viewing Pavilion. Taking photos of the cherry blossoms in the crowded park requires skill, and it's best to cross the Changchun Bridge before nightfall. Turtle Head Isle is lit up at night, so it gets more crowded as it gets later. The best spot for viewing the night cherry blossoms is at Changchun Bridge. Walking around the bridge and taking pictures from the opposite side of the bridge is absolutely stunning!

Ericeira, Portugal’s Surfing Town 🏄♂️🌊
After a perfect skiing holiday in Austria, our family journey brought us to Portugal, specifically to the renowned surfing town of Ericeira. This town is famous for its beautiful beaches and excellent surfing conditions, making it a paradise for surf enthusiasts🏄♀️.
Ericeira is not only spectacular for its seascapes but also rich in surfing culture. Our family tried surfing here; although Sienna is still young, she had a great time playing on the beach, while we enjoyed the unforgettable thrill of surfing.
The atmosphere in this town is incredibly relaxed and joyful, with surprises around every corner. We explored the local markets, savored delicious seafood, and felt the warmth of Portuguese hospitality at every moment.
One of the highlights of our trip was the sunset in Ericeira. Standing on the beach, watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon while the waves gently lapped the shore, made the world seem extraordinarily peaceful and beautiful.
Have you ever visited a surfing sanctuary like Ericeira? Or do you have a dream surfing destination? Feel free to share your story!

Majestic Qingshui Cliff.
The Qingshui Cliff in Hualien, located between Heping and Chongde, is one of the great wonders on the east coast of Taiwan and also one of Taiwan's top eight scenic spots. The Qingshui Cliff is over a thousand meters high and stands almost at a 90-degree angle next to the Pacific Ocean. The road stretches for more than 20 kilometers, winding and twisting. On one side there are steep cliffs, and on the other, the vast sea. The situation is perilous, and the weather is ever-changing, which is both terrifying and breathtaking. Standing on the platform and watching the sheer rock faces of Qingshui Cliff and the sparkling waves crashing against them, just this scene alone fills the heart with wonder and admiration for nature. In the face of such natural beauty and wonder, one can't help but feel humble and respectful towards nature.
Golden Chishang.
In the rural lanes of Chishang Township, Taitung County, the popularity soared after being featured in a Mr. Brown Coffee commercial with Takeshi Kaneshiro, earning it the nickname 'Emerald Paradise Road'. The vast emerald rice fields, with not a single utility pole in sight, offer a truly boundless view. It's not just a picturesque spot for photography, but also a place where one can take their soul away from the hustle and bustle.
On an autumn afternoon, the sunshine is still warm, especially dazzling on the golden rice fields that stretch as far as the eye can see.
'Chishang' is located at the northernmost junction of the longitudinal valley between Taitung and Hualien. Surrounded by golden rice fields, this enchanting 'Paradise Road' sways continuously, with the rustling sound of husks rubbing in the wind. The endless open view stretches towards the green mountains, with clouds, birds, wind, and me on the road.
A Small Forest in the City - Fuyang Eco Park
📍Location: Fuyang Street, Da’an District, Taipei City
🏘️Introduction: Fuyang Eco Park is just a 5-minute walk from the MRT Linguang Station. It was an ammunition depot during the Japanese era, and now you can still see many signs of the ruins. The park has 8 major themes, where you can see animals such as butterflies, tree frogs, and fireflies, as well as listen to the babbling brook, making it a suitable place for a stroll after work or school.
🎟️Admission: Free
⏲️Hours: Open 24 hours, but with sparse lighting at night, please be cautious for safety
🥰Review: As someone who loves nature, I often find myself trapped in the city due to travel time and scheduling, unable to hike or play in the water. However, the emergence of Fuyang Park has rescued me from the stress after work. The most surprising thing is that you can go to the park to see fireflies from April to June. I highly recommend everyone to take a little time to walk in the park, take a leisurely stroll, climb a little, and sweat it out.
