It is with the panoramic view of the sea

It owes its name to the fact that the cala was particularly dear to the English poet Lord Byron, who took refuge there to meditate. Near the cave you can also see the statue of a woman, in bronze, called "Mater Naturae", made in 1989 by the well-known sculptor Scorzelli. A natural cavity 20 metres deep insinuated between the walls of the Castle and the church of San Pietro a Portovenere, the Grotta di Byron is one of the most evocative attractions of Portovenere, pearl of the Cinque Terre. On the walls and in its waters there are many marine species: for this reason it is a paradise for snorkellers and for experts in marine biology, who organise meetings and gatherings here.
