#AugustDestinations2025 The General Sun Li-jen Residence, located in downtown Pingtung, is one of Taiwan's most significant historical buildings after the war. Originally constructed as part of the Pingtung Army Quarters during the Japanese era, it served as General Sun's official residence and office from 1947 while serving in Pingtung. Well-preserved to this day, the residence not only bears witness to Taiwan's modern military history but also bears witness to the general's military career. The residence, a blend of Japanese and Western architectural styles, features wooden structures and a spacious courtyard, showcasing a rich Showa-era aesthetic. The elegant interior design retains the original living and reception areas, while the exterior, characterized by its pitched roof, wooden lattice windows, and corridors, embodies the simple elegance of a Japanese-style dormitory.
