#VisitAyutthaya Wat Mahathat is located in the Ayutthaya Historical Park. It was built during the reign of King Borommarachathirat I, King Luang Pha Ngua, in 1917. Wat Mahathat is where the relics of the Lord Buddha are enshrined. It is also considered the center of the city and the venue for various royal ceremonies in Ayutthaya. The temple area has a large prang, but unfortunately it has collapsed, and an octagonal pagoda. Another highlight is the #Buddha's head in the roots of a Bodhi tree. The head of a sandstone Buddha statue is covered with tree roots. The head of the Buddha statue fell to the base of a tree during the fall of Ayutthaya, until the roots covered it.
