Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit is the place where Phra Mongkhon Bophit, an ancient Buddha image, is believed to have been built since the early Ayutthaya period during the reign of King Borommatrailokanat, or about 500 years ago. The Buddha image has been restored many times, both by moving its location, both originally as a pavilion and later converted into a temple, until it was severely damaged during the fall of Ayutthaya for the second time, becoming an open-air religious site that was quite dilapidated until it was well restored in 1956 to its current state.
