One of the Eight Views of Omi since ancient times

#aprilblooms Kaimonsan Mangetsu-ji Temple, a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect Daitokuji school, is located on the shore of the lake on the south side of the bridge. In the precincts, there is a hall at the end of the bridge to Lake Biwa. It is one of the best scenic spots in Lake Biwa, called Ukimido because it looks like it is floating on the surface of the lake. It has a long history, and it is said that it was built in the late Heian period by a monk of Mt. Hiei, Genshin (Eshin Soto), one of the seven high priests of the Jodo Shinshu sect, to pray for the safety of the lake and the prosperity of sentient beings. The current building was rebuilt in 1937 (Showa 12) after it collapsed in the Muroto Typhoon in 1934 (Showa 9), and is a nationally designated tangible registered cultural property. In 1982 (Showa 57), repairs were also carried out, leaving the old emotions as they are and conveying them to the present. In the hall, there are 1,000 Amida Buddhas that are said to have been carved by Genshin himself.
