[Shiga] Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei✨

Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei is a historic temple known as the head temple of the Tendai sect. It is said to have begun at the end of the Nara period, when 19-year-old Saicho built a hermitage on Mount Hiei. He later founded the Tendai sect and became a central figure in the Japanese Buddhist world. The vast temple grounds are divided into three areas: the East Pagoda, the West Pagoda, and Yokokawa, each dotted with buildings with different styles. The main hall, Konponchudo, is a must-see spot in particular. When visiting, we recommend that you plan your trip well in advance, taking into account the time it takes to travel between each area.
