Since I’m in Japan, the birthplace of tonkatsu, visiting a renowned tonkatsu restaurant is a must for me. Let me introduce you to New Babe, a famous and popular tonkatsu spot in Osaka, loved by both locals and tourists alike. New Babe is a chain restaurant with about 4-5 locations in Osaka. I visited the main branch, which is about a 25-minute walk from Dotonbori. After enjoying a delicious meal at New Babe, the walk back to Dotonbori is perfect for digestion. As a tonkatsu specialty restaurant, their menu is quite detailed, offering various cuts and grades of pork. We decided to go with the staff’s recommendations and ordered the Hirekatsu and Love Rosukatsu. The Hirekatsu melted in my mouth, offering a texture more akin to tuna or salmon than pork—it was absolutely delightful. Meanwhile, the Rosukatsu had the perfect balance of fat, delivering a burst of savory flavor with every bite. For dessert, we were served refreshing sherbet ice cream and warm tea, which made for a satisfying finish to the meal. Plus, writing a review on Google Maps earned us a 5% discount! The food was so delicious that I found myself craving it again the next day. With friendly staff and incredible flavors, New Babe is truly a standout tonkatsu restaurant in Osaka.
