The East Valley Pagoda Forest

Located in the valley east of Tiantong Temple in Yinzhou District, Ningbo, the Tiantong East Valley Pagoda Forest serves as the burial ground for eminent monks throughout the temple's history. Comprised of numerous stone pagodas, each representing a deceased monk, the forest holds significant historical and cultural value. Initially constructed during the Tang Dynasty, the forest underwent expansions during the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, bearing witness to the rise and fall of Tiantong Temple. The stone pagodas within the forest exhibit diverse styles, reflecting the architectural characteristics of different eras. Many emulate wooden structures and feature exquisite carvings. The East Valley Pagoda Forest is not only a sacred Buddhist site but also a valuable resource for studying ancient architecture and Buddhist culture.
