Nicknamed “The Crossroads of the World,” Times Square is an overload of neon lights, massive billboards, swarming crowds, and chaotic traffic. Located between 42nd to 49th Street and 6th to 8th Avenue, it was named after the former headquarters of The New York Times. I first visited in 2019 and returned in summer 2025—honestly, not much has changed. It’s still a dizzying display of globalized entertainment. Visitors often come here to snap photos or browse stores (Disney fans might enjoy the Disney Store, and anime lovers may stop by Kinokuniya). On New Year’s Eve, the iconic Ball Drop event attracts around 1 million people—if you want a good spot, arrive by 4 PM and be prepared: no food, no toilets, and adult diapers are a thing. One must be alert to street performers or people offering photos or freebies—many are aggressive and expect tips. Always assess your surroundings before taking photos and walk away firmly if approached unexpectedly.
