Visit Jinbaoli Road: Yulu Ancient Trail

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 Jinbaoli Road, located in Yangmingshan National Park, is named after the Jinbaoli community of the Pingpu people. It is one of the most famous ancient roads in northern Taiwan. It was originally a mountain trail for the aborigines to travel. Since the Qing Dynasty, it has also been a route for residents to transport fish, sulfur and other items, so it is also called the Fish Road. It can be divided into the Japanese Road and the Henan Yong Road. The Japanese Road was opened during the Japanese occupation period for the transportation of heavy weapons, and the slope is relatively gentle. The Henan Yong Road is related to the Henan Camp of the Qing Army. The two roads intersect in the middle. The Jinbaoli Ancient Road has a lot of historical relics, such as Dayoukeng, Shanzhufengcuodi, Xuyan Bridge, etc. When we arrived at Xuyan Bridge, we happened to encounter a group of monkeys. They were super cute. I took a picture of a monkey jumping onto the signpost (Picture 9). The end point of this trail is the Shanghuang Creek parking lot, near the sulfur-filled Shanghuang Creek (Figures 15-16). You can smell a strong smell of sulfur all along the way.
