This is where the Pacific Plate (a plate is a layer of rock that covers the surface of the Earth, about 100 km thick), the Philippine Sea Plate, and the Eurasian Plate collide, and the Pacific Plate moves toward the Eurasian Plate by 10 cm per year. It's coming at such a speed. A part of the strata that has been pushed and bent by this force, resulting in a '"folded structure" that undulates like large waves. It you look back at the mountains behind you, you can see the strata standing upright there as well, and feel the enormous force of plate movement.
